Surname Saturday - Doan, Doane

I have learned recently that I am a descendant of two different lines from my immigrant ancestor John Doane. As well as being descended from the Quaker Doans from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, I am also descended from the ones in the Cape Cod area through my 2nd great-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Robbins Doan. She is a direct descendant of Benjamin Doane and Hannah Small.

Benjamin Doane was Daniel Doane, Jr.'s great-grandnephew, the great-grandson of Daniel's brother, Joseph. He was born in Harwich, Mass. on June 20,1772 and died there on Sept. 25, 1856. He married Hannah Smalley, daughter of Edward and Hannah Smalley, on Jan. 29, 1795. They had nine children, i. Joseph, born Jan. 10, 1796, Jan. 15,1802,ii. Sarah, born Oct. 7, 1797, iii. Benjamin, born Oct. 13, 1799, iv. Abish, born Jan. 15, 1802, v. Zemira, born Nov. 28,1805, vi. Patience, born Nov. 26, 1807, vii. Hannah, born June 24, 1811, and twins viii. Marsella and xi. Arsella born on Apr. 9, 1814.

Hannah Doan married Elkhannah Nickerson, Jr. on Jan. 3, 1829 in Harwich, Mass.
